Batumi is the only Georgian city where the airport is genuinely close to the hotel. A Batumi airport transfer is a short drive rather than the hour-plus that the capital’s guests are used to, and for a coastal week that changes the arithmetic of the whole arrival. The catch is that the airport is only fully awake for part of the year.
The terminal sits just south of the city, near the coast. There is one building, the walk from gate to curb is short, and in low season a whole arrival can clear in fifteen minutes.

The season is the whole story
Georgia’s airports set a record with 6.5 million passengers in 2025, but that growth is not spread evenly. In the most recent quarterly figures, Tbilisi and Kutaisi grew while Batumi declined.
That is not a warning sign. It is what a summer airport looks like measured in the first quarter. Batumi is a beach and casino city, its route map thickens in June and thins by November, and a guest planning a January trip should check that the flight they found actually operates in January.
What a Batumi airport transfer actually involves
Short. That is the honest answer, and it is why the transfer is the easiest one we run anywhere in the country. The drive from the terminal to the seafront hotels is a matter of minutes rather than the 17 kilometres of the Tbilisi approach.
Two things still go wrong. The first is late-evening summer arrivals landing into the city’s own traffic, when the boulevard is closed for an event and the short drive becomes a long one. The second is guests who booked Batumi airport for a trip that is not actually about Batumi, which is the more expensive mistake.
When Batumi is the wrong airport
If the itinerary is the coast, Batumi is correct and nothing else comes close.
If the itinerary includes Svaneti, the mountains, or anywhere inland, the western hub is usually the better arrival. Kutaisi is roughly two hours away and opens four different directions rather than one, which is what the roads out of Kutaisi covers in full. We have driven guests from Batumi airport to Mestia because they booked the coast and then changed their minds, and it is a long day that a different flight would have avoided.
If the trip is mainly the capital and Kakheti, fly to Tbilisi. Crossing the country afterwards is a real journey, and the four ways of doing it all take most of a day.
The border, which is closer than guests expect
Batumi sits near the Turkish frontier, and the Sarpi crossing is a short drive south of the airport. This matters for two kinds of guest: those combining Georgia with the Turkish Black Sea coast, and those who assume a land border is an all-day undertaking. It is not, on a good day.

What we send
For a Batumi airport transfer the S-Class is usually right, because the drive is short and the luggage is a holiday’s worth rather than a month’s. Families and groups take the V-Class, for the reasons the group car exists at all.

Our most recent Batumi airport run was 2026-08-16, a 21:05 arrival in peak August. Eighteen minutes to the hotel, which included five minutes stationary on the boulevard behind an event closure. In February the same drive is under ten.
