Georgia trip cost: a week's budget from the official figures

How much does a trip to Georgia cost? The official survey puts the average visit at 2 187 ₾ over 5.6 nights. The visa and insurance rules, and getting around priced three ways, flights excluded.

How much does a trip to Georgia cost? One part of the answer cannot be given in general: the flight, which depends on where you fly from, so it is left out here. The rest of the bill has an official number behind it, because Georgia’s statistics office asks departing visitors what they spent.

This is a budget for a week on the ground. It starts with that survey, adds the fixed costs at the border, then prices getting around three ways, cheapest first.

How much does a trip to Georgia cost on average

The National Statistics Office’s inbound tourism survey for 2025 puts average spending at 2 187.3 ₾ per visit, counting visitors aged 15 and over. The average visit lasted 5.6 nights. At the National Bank’s official exchange rate in late October 2026, 2.5971 ₾ to the dollar, that is about $840 a person.

The survey splits the total by category, per visit:

Read the average with care, because it blends very different trips. In the same survey, 15.4 percent of visitors came for the day only, and 23.9 percent of visits were to friends or relatives, who may not pay for a bed at all. Shopping is the largest line, and a holiday visitor may spend little of it. Leave it out and the average is about 1 570 ₾.

For the seven-day question, divide the total by the nights. It comes to roughly 390 ₾ a night, or about 2 700 ₾ a person for a week. That is arithmetic on the survey, not a survey result, and a starting point rather than a quote.

Spending from India, Saudi Arabia and the UAE

Geostat does not publish the spending by country. The nearest official figure is travel revenue by country from the National Bank, charted in GNTA’s Georgian Tourism in Figures 2025. Saudi Arabia, the one Gulf market with its own line, brought in $157.6 million from 96,340 visits. That is about $1,640 a visit, against roughly $680 for the average visit worked out the same way. The revenue and the visit counts come from different sources, so treat the ratio as rough.

India and the UAE are not broken out. Gulf and Indian travellers in Georgia has the visit numbers for both markets and the direct flights.

The fixed costs: visa and insurance

Many passports need no visa. The foreign ministry’s visa-free list includes Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman, each for a full year. Holders of a valid visa or residence permit from a country on a second list, the six Gulf states, the US and the UK among them, can stay 90 days in any 180 without a Georgian visa. That covers an Indian family resident in Dubai.

Most other travellers need a visa; for a short stay the ministry points to the e-visa portal, whose FAQ puts the fee at $20 plus a 2 percent service fee, not refunded if the visa is refused, and gives not less than five working days for a decision. Every traveller needs a separate e-visa, whatever their age. For an Indian passport the portal adds a second mandatory step, a DuVerify application at $15 per applicant. A family of four applying from India pays about $142 before anyone boards.

Then the rule that applies to every passport. Since 1 January 2026, the ministry’s entry rules require every tourist to hold health and accident insurance with cover of at least 30 000 ₾ for the whole stay, arrival and departure days included. The policy can come from a Georgian or a foreign insurer, on paper or electronic, in Georgian or English. Premiums vary by insurer and traveller, so check first whether an existing travel policy already meets the 30 000 ₾ floor. The same rules, from a corporate booker’s side, are in a business trip to Tbilisi.

Getting around on public transport

This is the cheapest line in the budget. The airport’s bus page puts route 337 into the centre at 1 ₾ for 90 minutes of travel, with a timetable from 06:59 to 22:59. The same page lists a week of unlimited travel for 20 ₾, loaded on a card that costs 2 ₾.

Days out work by minibus. Sighnaghi’s municipal tourism portal lists six departures a day from the Navtlughi bus station, at 15 ₾. Georgia’s national parks site lists minibuses from Didube to Borjomi every day from 08:00 to 18:00.

For one person, the airport bus both ways, a week’s pass with its card and a Sighnaghi day by minibus come to 54 ₾. That is well under the survey’s 189.9 ₾ for local transport. The limits are real: the bus has stopped by the time a late flight lands, and a minibus does not wait at a viewpoint. The airport’s taxi page gives a fixed 40 ₾ into the centre, around the clock, and what a Tbilisi airport transfer costs compares every way into the city.

A rental car

No rental price appears here, because none could be checked against an official source. For a couple on unstructured days a rental is often the cheap answer. Car rental in Georgia, or a chauffeur sets out where it works and where it does not, the wine day above all. Before collecting the keys, read driving in Georgia yourself for the licence rules and the winter tyre law.

A driver for the week, at SOIT’s published rates

Take one example week: an airport transfer each way and three full days out, such as Kazbegi, Kakheti and Borjomi. A day out is priced at the day rate, eight to nine hours with one driver, door to door, and the day trips from Tbilisi page lists the routes. Fares are per car, not per seat:

For two people that is 2 375 ₾, 2 750 ₾ or 4 500 ₾ each. Four people means the V-Class, because the S-Class and both Maybachs take three guests and the V-Class seven; split four ways it is about 1 190 ₾ each. A day that runs past nine hours is quoted with the extra hours already included, and every fare is confirmed in writing before the car is dispatched.

Set that beside the survey. For a couple, the car alone costs each of them more than the average visitor spent on the whole trip. For four, it is still about six times the average local transport line. SOIT is not a tour company and provides no guides, so a guide is a separate booking.

The cheaper way to use a driver is for one day. A week with the bus and minibuses for the easy days and one V-Class day in Kakheti, where nobody should drive back from the cellars, adds 1 350 ₾ for the car. What a day with a private driver costs sets out which days are worth paying for.

A week fits one half of the country, and the seven-day itinerary by car shows which. Ten days in Georgia adds the west, with each day costed at the published rates.

Send the dates, the number of guests and the days you want driven to booking@soitblack.com, and the fare comes back in writing before any car is dispatched.
